What is a critical path?

A critical path defines the tasks, target timings, and operational sequence for a turnaround operation.

In AGOA, a critical path is the list of turnaround tasks (and optional sub-tasks) set up for a specific combination of:

  • Airline

  • Airport

  • Aircraft type

For each critical path, you define:

  • The minimum turnaround time (minimum ground time)

  • The tasks and sub-tasks included in the turnaround

  • When each task should start or finish relative to the flight's arrival or departure

Target timings are usually expressed relative to:

  • Arrival: A + (minutes after arrival) or A - (minutes before arrival, if applicable)

  • Departure: D - (minutes before departure), D + (minutes after departure, if applicable)

Examples of targets:

  • The jetbridge is set at A + 02 (2 minutes after arrival).

  • Passenger disembark lasts from A + 02 to A + 10

  • Bag Search starts at D - 10 (10 minutes before departure)

Tasks must follow the real operational order — for example, cleaning cannot start until passenger disembarkation is finished — and all target timings must fit within the minimum turnaround time.

You can also set up optional sub-tasks to capture extra operational information, such as passenger counts, safety checks, confirmations, or inspection photos. This information is recorded during the turnaround and is available in Station View and Analytics.

To create a critical path from scratch, go to the Backoffice, open the Critical Path section, and select Create a new critical path. To update an existing critical path instead, use the icons next to it to:

  • Edit (pencil)

  • Duplicate (copy/paste)

  • Create a specific critical path (+)

  • Delete (X)
